Micro-Milestones
“Use ‘Micro-Milestones’ to help motivate you to achieve your goals by setting up mini-goals to complete along the way”. – Nick Sullivan
What does that mean?
Author and speaker, Jon Acuff, uses “micro-Milestones to help him achieve his goals. He sets up milestones that he can check off that motivate him to keep working towards his main goals.
What could this look like for me?
- If your goal is to be 1 year sober, set up micro-milestones at 1, 3, 6, and 9 months.
- If your goal is to read 20 books in a year, set up micro-milestones at 1, 5, 10, and 15 books.
- If your goal is to lose 50 pounds, set up micro-milestones at 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 pounds.
- If your goal is to get 1,000 followers, set up micro-milestones at 100, 250, 500, and 750.
Celebrate the successful completion of your smaller goals, so you will be more motivated to complete your main goal.
Sometimes setting a huge, daunting goal can be difficult. Breaking it into smaller, more digestible chunks will make it easier to accomplish.
Perfectionism will tell you that you have to complete a goal 100% perfect all at once, but progress allows you to complete a goal one piece, one day at a time.
